Jat stir escalates in Haryana

Haryana: Violence triggered by the Jat agitation for reservation spread to more areas in Haryana on Saturday, with reports saying protesters set fire to vehicles and public and private property and blocked roads and the railway track. Four persons were reportedly killed and several injured in the State as security forces opened fire.

Police presence along border hamlets has yielded results

Coimbatore: The Nilgiris and Coimbatore District Police said that increasing police presence in the hamlets bordering Tamil Nadu and Kerala has helped them gather intelligence inputs by getting closer to people. The police are confident that this will play a key role in curtailing attempts by Maoists from Kerala to enter Tamil Nadu.

Security stepped up for temple festival

Rameshwaram:In view of the kumbabhishekam of the Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram, scheduled to be held here on January 20, DIG (Additional charge) Anand Kumar Somani held discussions with temple and civic officials on Sunday. Country bomb near school creates agitation

Chennai: In a second incident within two months, the city police have recovered a country bomb, assembled with commercial explosives, placed in front of an aided middle school at Vyasarpadi here on Friday  evening. The find by parents who came to collect their kids from the government aided middle school caused flutter on Bhakthavatchalam Colony I street at Vyasarpadi,  around 3.30 pm.

Major crimes reduced in 2015 at West Zone

Chennai: The eight districts in the West Zone saw a significant drop in the number of major crimes in 2015 and these included murders, dacoity, robbery, chain-snatching, burglary and thefts.

Crimes against women up but most cases ‘solved’

New Delhi: The capital saw a rise in crime against women last year as compared to 2014. While 5,192 cases of molestation of women were reported last year, the number was 4,322 in 2014. However, most cases were solved well in time. More than 70% of the crimes against women were worked out and chargesheeted within the fortnight of reporting the incident, police claimed.

In 2015, crime rate came down by 30 per cent in Tirunelveli

Tirunelveli: Crime rate in the city came down by 30 per cent in 2015 from the figure recorded in 2014 due to various preventive measures taken by police, said Commissioner of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Tirunelveli Range) T.S. Anbu. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Anbu said that 82 persons were detained under the Goondas Act in 2015, while the number was 35 in 2014.

Chittoor police to set up women security panels

Chittoor: SP G. Srinivas, on Tuesday said that top priority would be given to reduce crime against women to zero level in 2016 by mooting "Mahila Security Panels", which would come in to force on International Women's Day on March 8.

Four held in murder case

Coimbatore: K.G. Chavadi Police on Tuesday arrested four persons in connection with the murder of a couple at Rathinam Nagar in Pichanur Panchayat on Sunday. According to the police, V. Amalraj (43) and his wife Lakshmi were found murdered near a pond close their residence on Sunday. The same day the accused made an attempt to murder the couple’s daughter Lakshmi (15). While trying to strangulate her, they had told the girl that her parents have been murdered.
