Man arrested for marrying a minor

Perambalur: A 28-year-old man was arrested on the charge of marrying a minor girl in May and for allegedly having a relationship with her. Besides arresting G. Chandrasekhar, the Arumbavur police also held his father Gopal and mother Thangammal. Police sources said Chandrasekar and the girl fell in love. He allegedly married the girl in May apparently without the knowledge of her parents.

Constable dies in accident

Perambalur: A police constable died in a road accident on the Tiruchi – Chennai national highway at Sengunam diversion near here on Monday. C. Vijayaraja (33), a Grade – I constable attached to Manglamedu police station was riding a motorcycle to the police station when the vehicle dashed against the sign board. In the impact, the Constable sustained severe head injury and died on the spot. The Perambalur police have registered a case, police sources said.

Home Guards sensitised to Lok Sabha poll duty

Perambalur: With the State police deciding to engage Home Guards in election duty, a meeting to sensitise them to their duties and responsibilities was organised here on Saturday. Over 100 Home Guards personnel attended the meeting organised by the district police on the Armed Reserve campus ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Rs.1.46 lakh seized Perambalur

At Tirumandurai near Perambalur, flying squad personnel seized Rs. 1.46 lakh on Thursday, being taken without any valid document by an ironware merchant in Thozhudur. The seizure was effected during vehicle check at a check post in Tirumandurai. Selvaraj, Special Tahsildar, intercepted a two-wheeler and seized the cash from S. Abibulla who was proceeding to Thozhudur.

Rs. 7.19 lakh seized

Perambalur: Flying squad personnel seized Rs. 7.19 lakh during vehicle checks in two places in Perambalur Parliamentary constituency on Saturday. One team seized Rs. 4.50 lakh from a vehicle at Tirumanthirai Kaikatti in Kunnam block and another team seized Rs. 2.69 lakh at Senjeri Pirivu road near Thuraiyur.

Perambalur Police got 1st & 3rd Prize in National Masters Athletic Championship

Perambalur: The Tamilnadu Masters Athletic Association conducted National Masters Athletic Championships  entitled  35th National Masters Athletic Championships 2014 at  Coimbatore from 24.02.14 to 27.02.14 in which the Perambalur District Police personnel Gr.I PC 1506 Tr. K. Elangovan(35 +) participated in 4x100 meters relay and Triple Jump and got first and third prize respectively.

Police-Public sports meet

PERAMBALUR: A district-level police-public sports meet will be held here on March 2 and 3. Long jump, shot-put, and 100 metres race, will be conducted for both men and women.
