Kancheepuram: A 54-year-old special sub-inspector, who was returning home after duty, died in a road accident on Sunday. The SSI, Paramasivam of Kancheepuram, whowas attached to Vishnu Kanchi, had just completed sentry duty at Government High School in Thiruputkuzhi, the counting centre for Kancheepuram Lok Sabha constituency.He was returning home on a motorcycle when he was hit by a car on National Highway 4 (Chennai – Bangalore Highway). Two women die as lorry overturn, dirver arrested

Ariyalur: Two women waiting for a bus died after a lorry capsized and fell over them at Jayamkondam branch road near Meensuritti on Sunday. Police identified one of the victims as S. Akila (35), while the identity of another woman, aged around 40 years, is yet to be established. The lorry was on its way to Tiruvarur from Tiruvallur district. The women succumbed on the spot. The lorry driver B. Selvakumar (36) was arrested.



Three killed in accident

Tirupur: Three persons were killed in an accident here on Friday. The car in which they were travelling collided with a bus near Aadhiyur Pirivu, police said. They were identified as Vetrivel (38), owner of a mineral water agency, and his employees Karthik (20) and Viswanathan (27).

One killed, four hurt in blaze

Tirunelveli: A woman was killed and four others were injured in a fire accident after a mentally challenged woman lit an LPG stove after removing the rubber tube at Maharaja Nagar here in the small hours of Saturday. Police said S. Selvarani (45) had removed the rubber tube, following which the gas from the refill spread in the kitchen. The incident occurred at around 3.30 a.m. When she lighted a match, fire engulfed the kitchen.

Salem: Three passengers of Mettur-bound government bus were killed while 10 others were injured after the bus collided with a dry fly ash-laden lorry near Mecheri here on Saturday evening. Mecheri police are investigating.

Two killed in road accidents

Chennai: A pedestrian died after he was knocked down by a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus at the Madley Road-South Usman Road junction on Wednesday.  The bus (route no. 49A) hit 65-year-old S. Janakiraman, a resident of Saidapet, who was crossing the roundabout at the junction. He sustained head injuries and died on the spot. The T. Nagar police have booked a case and have arrested the MTC driver Soundararajan.

Two killed as paddy harvester hits bike

Tiruvannamalai: Two persons riding a motorcycle were killed on the spot when a paddy harvester vehicle hit them near Vandavasi on Monday.  Kovendan (32), panchayat vice president of Sathampoondi village near Vandavasi and Natarajan (50) of the same village went to Mazhaiyur for attending a function. On their way back, they were hit by a paddy harvester vehicle that attempted to enter Mazhaiyur — Desur Main Road from Thazhampoondi junction.

Two killed in two-wheeler riding

Pudukottai: Two persons riding a two-wheeler were fatally knocked down by a speeding unknown vehicle near Viralimalai on Monday. Andi (45) of Sangampatti village and his friend Rengu of Malaikudipatti were proceeding to a shop when the incident took place at Madiripatti diversion road. Both were killed on the spot. Viralimalai police have registered a case and are investing.

Two killed accident

Coimbatore: An insurance agent, and his wife were killed in an accident involving the car in which they were travelling and another at Marudhakaliathal Temple, near Chettipalayam here on Monday. Six people were injured in the accident. The police said Murugaraj, 45, and wife Padmavathy, 40, were killed when they were on the way to the temple. Murugaraj’s mother Subbathal, and sister Mailathal were injured in the accident.

Man dies of accident injuries

Chennai: A 60-year-old security guard succumbed to injuries on Saturday that he sustained during an accident on Friday night. The victim, Govindaraj, was knocked down by a car on Poonamallee High Road at Arumbakkam when he was returning from a shop. Suresh Kumar (46), a resident of Arumbakkam, who drove the car, abandoned his vehicle and fled after hitting a shop nearby. Anna Nagar police arrested him on Saturday.
