Hyderabad: In an unusual case of corruption, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Wednesday arrested a man from Kolkata after he collected Rs. 10 lakh from a Government employee promising to stop an “inquiry by ACB” against the latter. The tainted sum was recovered from Amith Khetawath after catching him near South India Shopping Mall in Gachibowli, the ACB Deputy Director Umamaheshwara Sharma said. The accused approached R.G. Bhaskar Reddy, working as Hyderabad District Legal Metrology Inspector, scaring him that ACB was inquiring into a petition of allegations that he was indulging in corruption.

He told the Inspector that ACB had information that the latter had amassed wealth illegally and a DA case would be registered against him. He demanded Rs. 20 lakh from Mr. Reddy assuring him to stop the ACB inquiry using his good offices. As the first instalment, he urged the Inspector to pay Rs. 10 lakh and was caught by the ACB.
