Videographer arrested in Tirunelveli

Tirunelveli: A photographer hired by Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple Administration to record the proceedings of counting of hundial collection arrested for allegedly stealing Rs.52,500 from the offerings. Appadurai (19), a videographer, was recording the counting process on Monday when a few temple employees noticed him stuffing a wad of Rs.1,000 notes in his undergarments.

27 SSIs promoted in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Twenty-seven Special Sub Inspectors (SSIs), who were promoted as Sub Inspectors (SIs), were greeted by City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan at his office here on Monday. These policemen joined the force as Grade-II constables more than 25 years ago and were promoted to the rank of SSIs a few  years ago.

Seven held for stolen the vehicle loaded with Rs. 66 lakh in cash

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Police have arrested seven persons on the charge of stealing Rs. 66 lakh from a cash van in Kalasipalyam police limits recently, and have recovered Rs. 30.23 lakh and the vehicle used to commit the crime. The arrested are Jamsher (23), K.M. Prabhakar (44), Hemanthkumar (27), Nandakumar (38), Renukappa (42), Murthy (32) and Manjunath (31). Each of them is either a driver or a security officer in a company that carries cash to ATMs.

Seven arrested in advocate murder case

Thanjavur: The police have arrested seven persons, including two brothers, in connection with the murder of an advocate near Tiruvidaimarudur in Thanjavur district. Raja, of Melamaruthuvakudi and an advocate practising in the Madras High Court, was hacked to death by a gang at Sannapuram railway level crossing on Apri

Coimbatore: The Thudiyalur police on Tuesday arrested Varadharajan, husband of Coimbatore Corporation Ward 1 councillor V. Vathsala, in connection with the murder of realtor Arumugham on March 26. The police said that they arrested him around 10.30 a.m. near the G.N.

Chennai: A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering and dumping the body of his 27-year-old relative in Madambakkam near Tambaram on Sunday.

Three arrested for smuggling cattle

Krishnagiri: Three persons were arrested for cattle smuggling and 14 bulls were rescued at Denkanikottai during a vehicle check on Sunday. Police based on a tip-off that cattle was being smuggled illegally into Karnataka, intercepted a lorry near Thalli - Denkanikottai Road. The lorry was found carrying 14 bulls illegally. Three persons Rameez (55), Mubharak (24) and Ithiaz (38) were arrested

Andhra police shot 20 red sander smugglers in Chittoor

Chittoor:  Twenty woodcutters believed to be hired by red-sander smugglers were killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force in Seshachalam hill ranges near Tirupati in the wee hours of Tuesday. This is the highest toll in a single encounter in the history of red-sanders smuggling. While 11 persons were killed in Cheekatikona, nine more died in Eethagunta, both deep in the forest, around 10 k.m. from the nearest human habitation.
