Youth arrested for rape of minor in Vaniyambadi

Vellore: Personnel attached to All Women Police Station (AWPS), Vaniyambadi, on Sunday arrested a 22-year-old youth on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor. Police said Sathish, a resident of Putheri village, Azhinjikulam, Vaniyambadi taluk had kidnapped a 12-year-old girl. The girl was alone at her father’s shop when Sathish had asked her to come with him saying that her father was at a nearby place repairing a tractor.

Seized vehicles to be auctioned on April 1

Vellore: The auctioning of vehicles seized in prohibition cases will be held on April 1. According to a press release issued by the Vellore police, 29 vehicles – 26 two-wheelers and three four-wheelers - seized under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act will be auctioned from 9 a.m. at Nethaji Stadium. Those who wish to take part in the bidding should pay an entry fee of Rs. 50. Successful bidders should pay the bid amount along with 14.5 per cent sales tax.

Special team formed to probe serious offences

Madurai: The State police have formed serious crime squad in six commissionerates and 14 district units to probe offences such as murder, murder for gain, rape, kidnap and kidnap for ransom. All those serious criminal cases in which the local police find it difficult to fix the accused would be transferred to the serious crime squad that would investigate and conduct their trial in the courts of law.

File detailed report on properties of man: HC to PP

Chennai: Madras High Court yesterday directed the Public Prosecutor to file a detailed report on properties of a man, who has allegedly cquired thousands of acres of land and reportedly regularly in touch with many top Police officials. Justice N Kirubakaran gave this direction after perusing an affidavit filed DGP as per its directions in connection with crimes committed in real estate transaction business for the past 10 years in Tamil Nadu.

Coast guard commissions ships, interceptor

Puducherry: The Coast Guard has commissioned state of the art ships and interceptor vessels at a ceremony in Puducherry. The coast guard ship was commissioned by Lt general Ajay Kumar Singh, Governor of Puducherry. "I think it's a great day for Indian Coast Guard that they have inducted three state of art ships ICGS Anagh, and two fast interceptor vessels C-417 and C-430. The Indian Coast Guard is a real time component of Indian maritime security," said Singh.

Chennai Police busted a fake credit card racket and arrested two persons

Chennai: Two persons purchased the merchandise of 11 cell phones and 2 memory cards worth about Rs.3 lakh from a shopping mall in T.Nagar using fake credit cards on 24.03.2015. The manager of the shopping mall, who grew suspicious, checked the transactions made by the duo, with banking authority and realized that he had been cheated.

Police tighten security for bandh

Tiruchi: Police in Tiruchi and across the Central Zone have braced themselves for the Statewide bandh called by farmers’ association on Saturday to express their protest against construction of a dam by Karnataka across the Cauvery river at Mekedatu. Security schemes have been drafted by the police as a precautionary measure to maintain order on the bandh day when several shops and business establishments were expected to remain closed to express solidarity with farmers.

Three held for murder of schoolgirl

Namakkal: Three youngsters, including a minor boy, were arrested on Friday for murdering a Class XI girl of Government Higher Secondary School in Periyamanali village in Tiruchengode Taluk here late on Thursday. The arrested were identified as Dileepan (22), a rig driver, his friend Santhosh (21) who works in a crusher unit, and the victim’s classmate, a 17-year-old boy.

Police inspector among three harmed in accident

Nagapattinam: Three persons, including an Inspector of Police attached to Velipalayam police station near here, were injured in a road accident on Friday evening. The police said the inspector of police Karthikeyan (52) was returning back to Nagapattinam in a car after attending a court matter in Pattukottai when a van from the opposite direction hit the vehicles at Mayilai near Thirupoondi.

Police officer to assist Sagayam in probe

Madurai: The High Court-appointed Legal Commissioner, U. Sagayam, has appointed a retired police official to deal with all registered and “hushed up” criminal cases related to illegal granite mining in Madurai district. N.K. Velu, who retired as Additional Superintendent of Police, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, from Coimbatore in 1997, has joined the Commission to assist Mr. Sagayam in dealing with the criminal cases.
