Four girls reported missing

Kancheepuram: Four girls, who were last known to have gone to school on July 7, were reported missing on Tuesday. Murugan of Naththanallur Irular Colony lodged a complaint with the Wallajahbad police on Tuesday, stating his three daughters, Vijayalakshmi (15), Karthika (9) and Saraswathi (8), and his brother-in-law, Sivakumar’s daughter, Lavanya (7), who went to school on the morning of July 7 had not returned. A case was registered.

Kancheepuram: Banned tobacco products seized

KAncheepuram: The railway police, on Sunday, destroyed a huge quantity of tobacco products seized from a long-distance train at Chengalpattu. During a routine check by the patrol teams of Railway Protection Force (RPF), 24 gunny bags were found in one of the sleeper coaches of Sampark Kranti Express, on Friday evening. On inspection, the policemen realised banned tobacco products were being smuggled in the packed bags.

The Kancheepuram police have released photographs of the man who early on Sunday morning used a crude bomb in an unsuccessful effort to loot cash from an ATM at Thiruporur. CCTV images of the man which bear time stamps of 00.34.03 and 00.38.15 show that he covered his head with a carry bag his features are only partially revealed.

Three arrested

Kancheepuram: Police arrested three persons from Melvangaram on Saturday after they were found in possession of a country-made gun without licence. According to police, an election flying squad handed over Maivannan, Balaji and Arunkumar to police. A complaint was lodged saying that the trio were hunting birds using a country-made gun.

Infant found dead

Kancheepuram: The body of a baby boy, wrapped in a cloth, was found in a garbage heap, on Sunday.  According to the police, Sathyamoorthy, the village administrative officer of Little Kancheepuram, lodged a complaint with the Vishnu Kanchi police on Sunday morning, stating the body of a just-born baby was lying in a garbage heap on Sunnambukara Street. Later, the body was shifted to the mortuary at District Government Headquarters Hospital.

Two medical college students arrested for robbery

Kancheepuram: Two medical college students were arrested on charges of robbing a businessman. Gold and diamond jewellery was recovered from them.
