Railway Police arrested a man for Cheating

Chennai: The Railway Police on Wednesday arrested K. Parthasarathy of Kolathur, Chennai, on charges of cheating. According to sources, he had met Vivek of New Siddhapudur during a train journey from Tirupur on April 4 and claimed to be a railway TTE. He had claimed that he could get job in railway for Vivek and asked him to come on Wednesday with Rs. 8,000. However, Vivek grew suspicious and alerted the Railway Police.

Team for child safety at stations

Chennai: Customs officials intercepted at least 16 people who tried to smuggle a total of 9.5 kg of gold worth Rs. 3 crore at Chennai airport on Tuesday. According to airport sources, the gold was found on passengers who reached the city airport from Dubai, Singapore, Muscat and Colombo. Three people from Ramanathapuram district smuggled in 1.8 kg of gold from Dubai in the form of trolley rods in suitcases.

Man arrested for Robbery

Coimbatore: The Railway police on Saturday arrested Mohan (44) who has been accused of involvement in several cases of robbery. According to the police, he was nabbed by a patrol when he attempted to snatch a mobile phone from a shop keeper near the railway junction. Mohan is suspected to have stolen Rs.35,000 in cash from a passenger last year.

Railway Police seized Cash and narcotics from passengers

Chennai: The Railway police on Wednesday seized Rs. 49 lakh and arrested a 35-year-old man. R. Purushothaman, inspector, Government Railway Police, Chennai Central, said they had detained Mohammed Faizal on suspicion and on checking his baggage, found the cash. He was unable to produce any record or even a bill for the cash.  They then handed over the cash and Faizal to officers of the income tax department.

Tiruchendur-Palani passenger train service to begin soon, says DRM

Chennai : A passenger train to Tiruchendur from Palani will be operated between February 15 and 25, said A.K. Rastogi, Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Railway (Madurai Division). Talking to presspersons before inspecting gauge conversion of Pollachi-Palani section on Dindigul-Palghat track here on Tuesday, he said that the exact date of introduction of the new train service will be announced shortly after consultation with the railway ministry.

RPF Southern Railway team shoots to gold

Railway Protection Force (RPF) Southern Railway team bagged seven gold medals and secured overall second position at the All India RPF shooting competition held at Jhansi in Madhya Pradesh recently. The contest conducted between December 10 and 13 saw the participation of RPF personnel from 16 railway zones from across the country.
