Police stations to tap solar power

Solar power is poised to electrify select police stations with the State police department deciding to use this renewable energy. The department has identified 24 police stations in the Central Zone encompassing eight districts in which solar plants would be installed to harness solar power to meet the energy requirements.

Four bronze idols and conch shells seized

Tiruchi: A police team of Tiruvarur district seized metal idols and a couple of conch shells from a man near Thiruthuraipoondi on Monday. The accused Raman alias K. Ramakrishnan (38) was found possessing four bronze idols and a couple of conch shells in a bag. Three Amman idols of varying heights ranging from one feet to 10 centimetres and a small idol of Lord Vishnu were found in the alleged possession of Raman, who was residing  in Vedaranyam taluk, sources said.

To help traffic policemen beat the heat and help them chill out for few moments before discharging their duty again, lemon juice, and buttermilk would be supplied to the men in uniform during this summer.

Gold worth Rs 75 lakh found abandoned in Tamil Nadu airport toilet

Tiruchirappalli: Three kg gold, worth Rs 75 lakh, was found abandoned in a toilet at the airport here on Wednesday. The incident came to light when the airport staff found a parcel left on the window sill of a toilet, police said. Customs officials seized the gold and were investigating the identity of the person who abandoned the parcel.

Nine kg ganja seized

Tiruchi: About nine kg of ganja, estimated at Rs. 70,000, was seized from the residence of L. Saraswathi (25) and her sister L. Ganga (23) at Surulikaran Street in Tiruverumbur on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, officials of the Organised Crime Intelligence Unit (OCIU), conducted checks and seized the narcotic substance from the house. 8 held for stoning MLA’s office

Tiruchi: Eight persons were arrested for stoning the office of Tiruchi East MLA R. Manoharan here on Friday. The police said the accused were protesting against the removal of a Vinayaka idol by the police at Kattabomman Nagar. The idol was installed without permission. A group laid siege to the MLA’s office on West Boulevard Road.

Tiruchi: Having made it clear that installation of Vinayaka idols would not be permitted in new places, the city police on Friday removed many idols here which were installed at new spots without obtaining consent.

30 arrested in hotel

Tiruchi: Special teams of the City Police arrested 30 persons on the charge of indulging in gambling in a hotel near the Central bus stand here on Sunday. The teams seized the stake money amounting to Rs. 5.44 lakh from them. Following information to the Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav about gambling taking place in the hotel, two special teams were constituted. The teams raided the club inside the hotel where 30 persons were found indulging in gambling.

Station master, two other railway employees arrested

Tiruchi: A station master and two other railway employees were arrested at Tiruvarur on Tuesday on the charge of teasing college girls on board an express train and assaulting a male student who questioned them. Boy held on sexual assault charge

Tiruchi: A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on the charge of sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl at Mullikarumbur near here a few days ago. On a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the boy was arrested on Sunday. The police said the mother left her daughter in a balwadi a few days ago. Later, when she came to take her daughter, she was told that her daughter was in a teacher’s house, located opposite the house of the accused.
