Tirupur Police launched a crackdown

Tirupur: The police launched a crackdown on trucks last week and over 200 trucks were booked for overloading. In a single day, Rs. 15. 5 lakh was collected as penalty from the owners of those 200 trucks that were laden with cement, sand and food grains beyond the allowed weight, sources said.

Police register case againest 200 lorries for overloading

Tirupur: In a massive crackdown on overloaded lorries over the past few days, the police booked a total of over 200 lorries for overloading. Police sources said fines totalling Rs 15. 4 lakh was levied on such vehicles. The vehicles with overload of sand, cement, rice and other commodities were caught from Avinashi, Kangayam, Dharapuram, Udumlapet and Palladam areas.

Head constable killed in accident

Tirupur: Varun Devan (49), a head constable, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle near Palladam on Thursday. He was posted for duty at the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Palladam. He was a native of Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district.

Five detained under Goondas Act

Tirupur: City Police Commissioner S. N. Seshasai on Monday detained five people who had been involved in multiple robbery and vehicle theft cases in the city under Goondas Act. Those detained were M. Thyagu (24), R. Selvam (29), both native of Theni district, K. Umaidurai (24), I. Pandi (24), V. Manikandan (25), all three from Tuticorin district.

Two arrested for Emu farm owner murder case

Tirupur: The Palladam police arrested two more persons, Diljith of Coimbatore, and Vinod Kumar (26) from Thanjavur, in connection with the murder of Mohan, an Emu farm owner, in 2012. Eleven persons were already arrested in the case. Mohan was abducted from Palladam area and was later found murdered near Bangalore

Finance firm owner arrested after nine years

Tirupur: City Crime Branch (CCB) police on Tuesday arrested P. Nagendran (42), a chit fund company owner who was at large for the past nine years, on the charges of allegedly duping the company customers to the tune of Rs. 5 lakh. CCB Inspector K. Sunderrajan said the accused was running the chit fund company at Gandhi Nagar in the city and fled once the case was charged against him. “Of the amount swindled, Rs three lakh has been returned to the customers,” he added.

Tirupur:The Tirupur South police registered a case against the district secretary of Aathithamizhar Peravai, A. Tamizhvendhan, and two others on the charges of assaulting K. Sozhan, a resident of Avinashi. Sozhan was admitted at District Headquarters hospital on Saturday. Police sources said Tamizhvendhan took Rs. 1.45 lakh from 10 persons, including Sozhan, with an offer to arrange patta for a poromboke land.
