Serial killer arrested

Ariyalur: A serial killer who had allegedly murdered five persons in the district has been arrested at Thammampatty. Sources said the accused, A. Subbarayan (24) of Kathiripatty near Edapadi, reportedly confessed to the police that he had murdered P. Velmurugan (37), his wife Parvathi (27) and their child Keerthana (2) with an axe while they were asleep at Senthamangalam in Ariyalur district a week ago.

Police to initiate action against panchayat chief

Ariyalur: The District Collector, E. Saravanavelraj, has directed the police to initiate criminal action against the president and vice president of Nagampandal village panchayat based on a complaint of misappropriation of funds meant for Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Murder case cracked, three arrested

Ariyalur: The Ariyalur police solved the mystery behind the murder of a woman that took place in April 2013 and arrested three people on Saturday. Kalpana (21), daughter of Kamaraj of Chettithirukkonam village, was attacked by a group of miscreants when she was grasing the cattle. She suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot. The miscreants took away her jewellery.

Police continue vehicle checks in Ariyalur

Ariyalur: As a fallout of the bus–lorry collision at Ottakoil in the district recently that claimed the lives of 13 bus passengers, the district administration launched vehicle checks at different places on Sunday evening to crack the whip on errant vehicles and its drivers. Split into teams, officials of revenue, police and transport departments jointly carried out the checks at five places. The surprise drive, executed on the instruction of Collector E.

Two women die as lorry overturn, dirver arrested

Ariyalur: Two women waiting for a bus died after a lorry capsized and fell over them at Jayamkondam branch road near Meensuritti on Sunday. Police identified one of the victims as S. Akila (35), while the identity of another woman, aged around 40 years, is yet to be established. The lorry was on its way to Tiruvarur from Tiruvallur district. The women succumbed on the spot. The lorry driver B. Selvakumar (36) was arrested.

 

 

Tamil Nadu police bust human trafficking racket; worker from Puducherry rescued

The Tamil Nadu police busted a human trafficking racket after arresting two members of a gang and rescued a worker from Puducherry, who was reportedly kidnapped and forced to work as a bonded labour in a sugarcane field in Ariyalur district.The police said the modus operandi of the gang was to target workers, entice them with liquor, make them addictive to alcohol, kidnap them and finally force them to work like bonded labourers in sugarcane fields and brick kiln units.
