2 held for sexually harassing girl

Nagercoil: A woman and her partner were arrested by the Kanyakumari police on the charge of sexually harassing her 14-year-old daughter on Saturday. It is alleged that C. Murugan (27), an auto driver, was sexually harassing the girl for over six months with the consent of her 35-year-old mother. One arrested for cheating engineering graduate

15 kg ganja seized; woman among 6 held

Nagercoil: Fifteen kilograms of ganja was seized in Nagercoil town on Tuesday morning. Kottar police arrested six persons, including a woman, in this connection. Police sources said they had intercepted an auto on suspicion near Sengatti bridge in Vadiveeswaram area in Nagercoil town during a vehicle check. Suddenly, two men fled from the scene. The police found 10 parcels of ganja in the auto. The contraband was being smuggled to Kanyakumari from Andhra Pradesh.

Head constable killed in road accident

Nagercoil: A head constable was killed in a road accident at Kottilpaadu on Wednesday night. Police said Nagarajan (45) of Pallivilaagam near Colachel and head constable attached to Manavaalakurichi police station was returning home in a bike after duty hours on Wednesday night. As he was crossing Kottilpaadu, his two-wheeler dashed against another bike, on which fisherman Salbin (18) of Mandaicaud Pudur was riding.

One kg brown sugar seized, three arrested

Nagercoil: Police seized about one kilogram of brown sugar, reportedly worth about Rs.1 crore in the international market, from three persons near Kanyakumari on Saturday and arrested them. The police said a special police team was conducting a vehicle check at Puthalam near Kanyakumari on Saturday night. A car coming on that road stopped at some distance from the police.

Nagercoil: Chief Minister Jayalalithaa declared open the police quarters constructed at a cost of Rs. 12.11 crore through video-conferencing on Wednesday. 87-year-old man arrested on murder charge

Kanniyakumari: An 87-year-old watchman was arrested for allegedly beating a 65-year-old woman to death following a quarrel over consumption of liquor near Kulasekaram in the district. According to police sources, Nesaiyan of Eenjancodu near Kulasekaram in the district was working as a watchman in a private rubber plantation near Pinanthodu in Kulasekaram and staying alone in a makeshift house within the rubber plantation.

55 surveillance teams formed on Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari: As instructed by the Election Commission, 55 surveillance teams have been formed in Kanyakumari district to prevent distribution of bribe to voters and check poll code violations. Already six flying squads and six video surveillance teams are functioning in three shifts round the clock.

Case against Congress candidate

Nagercoil: Cases were registered against the Congress candidate H. Vasantha Kumar for Kanyakumari constituency and the Killiyoor Congress MLA John Jacob along with local party functionaries in various police stations for making alleged derogatory remarks against the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. According to the police, Mr. Jacob made a derogatory speech against her during an election campaign meeting at Kannanagam junction near Kollemcode.

Killed in accident

Nagercoil: Two house surgeons of the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam - Rajaram (23) of Kallakurichi and Nandhagopal (23) of the same area - were killed in a road accident on Thursday. They were proceeding towards Chettikulam in a motorcycle when a lorry from the opposite direction hit their vehicle killing them on the spot.
