Youth dies in accident

Karur: Irate public resorted to a road block at Kottaimedu on the Kulithalai-Manaparai highway after a youth was killed and his mother injured in a road accident on Sunday. Police said that a sand laden truck from Kulithalai knocked down S. Vikki (21) killing him on the spot and injuring his mother Dhanalakshmi who was then shifted to a private hospital in Tiruchi. The two were returning on a motorbike after a pilgrimage to Veerappur temple when the incident occurred.

Rs. 2.32 lakh confiscated from SHG members

Karur: A flying squad seized cash amounting to Rs. 2.32 lakh from a women self help group members during a routine vehicle check near here on Wednesday. A squad led by Deputy Registrar Manoharan was on vehicle check when they searched a TNSTC bus from Kulithalai to Manaparai at Ayyarmalai  when they detected the cash amounting to Rs.2.32 lakh from the baggage of Valaramathi (37) and Periyakka (35), self help group member belonging to Ottapatti near Thogamalai.

Two killed in accident

Karur: Two persons were killed and one injured in a road mishap on Saturday. Police said that a sand laden lorry from Karur heading towards Coimbatore mowed down three persons near the Sukkaliyur road junction.

Cash seized from a car near Aravakurichi

Karur: Swinging into hysteric action, officials in Karur district seized Rs. 50,360 in cash from a car during regular vehicular check interception near Aravakurichi on Saturday enforcing the model code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections.

Stockpile of explosives seized

Karur: The Thogamalai police in Karur district have arrested four persons and seized a huge haul of illegally kept detonators and gelatine sticks. Police sources said that following a tip-off that some explosives were stored clandestinely near Pothuravuthanpatti village on Saturday evening, the police nabbed and questioned R. Shanmugham (39) of the village who spilled the beans on a stockpile of explosives kept in the backyard of the house of P. Murugesan (37).

Railway police launches safety campaign

Karur: In a bid to prevent accidents on railway tracks and at level crossings, the Government Railway Police organised an awareness campaign in Karur to sensitise people on the hazards of negligence near railway tracks.

Sevalkattu banned in Karur

Karur: A  day after sevalkattu claimed two lives in the Aravakurichi taluk of Karur district the administration has banned rooster duels. The order cited administrative reasons for the ban while avoiding any direct reference to the two deaths.
