Man held for rape bid after four years

Kochi: A man was held after four years in a case relating to sexual harassment of a 20-year-old girl based in Aluva after making a false marriage promise.
Rauf, son of Abdul Rehman, Kattil Valappu House, Kaniyanoor Taluk, Kannur, was arrested from his hideout in Kannur and produced before the Aluva court, which remanded him in 14-days police custody.

Sand mafia rule the roost in North Kerala

KOZHIKODE: The thriving sand mafia, based at Kasargode is extending its long tentacles to the entire northern Kerala to establish a parallel governance there. The roots of the mafia can be traced to the illegal transport of sand from Mangalore for the last many years.

Peacock feathers seized at airport

KOCHI: The Customs wing at the Cochin international airport seized about 25 kg of peacock feathers from two passengers on Thursday.Two passengers, Paramasivam and Karuppayya from Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, had come to the airport to take a flight to Kuala Lumpur. While their luggage was being screened ahead of check-in, officials detected suspicious items inside.

Mobile traffic e-park changing gear

Thiruvananthapuram: A mobile traffic awareness initiative of the city police, titled Traffic Electronic Park (e-park), which has been silently making rounds of city schools for a year now, is switching gear to gain pace. The park, a modified bus with audiovisual aids, PowerPoint presentations and a stock of pamphlets and books on traffic rules and regulations, will be actively making the rounds of the city during Onam.

Man held with 2 kg of ganja

Kerala: The city crime squad, on Tuesday, arrested a person with two kg of ganja in his possession. P.O. Shamshudeen, 37, of Malappuram, was arrested from Ramanattukkara while transporting the ganja in a car. The accused had concealed  the stuff under the seat of the vehicle, the police said. Shamsudheen had confessed to the police that he had purchased the ganja for supplying it to college students in the city. It had been brought from Attappady in Palakkad district.
