Youth held for raping a minor

Pudukottai: The Aranthangi All Women Police arrested one Kalanthar (25) of Ekanivayal village on Thursday on charge of raping a minor girl. The incident took  place a few days ago, when the youth had taken the girl, who also hailed from the same village, on the pretext of playing games on a mobile phone.

Case registered against appraiser

Pudukottai: The District Crime Branch Police have registered a case against Gopalakrishnan, appraiser of Union Bank of India at Nachandupatti near here, on a charge of replacing gold jewels at the bank’s locker with imitation jewellery.

Case against deputy tahsildhar for issuing fake appointment orders

Pudukottai: The District Crime Branch police have registered a case against three persons, including a deputy tahsildhar attached to the collectorate and two women temporary staff, for issuing bogus appointment orders for the post of night watchman to three persons.

Two killed in two-wheeler riding

Pudukottai: Two persons riding a two-wheeler were fatally knocked down by a speeding unknown vehicle near Viralimalai on Monday. Andi (45) of Sangampatti village and his friend Rengu of Malaikudipatti were proceeding to a shop when the incident took place at Madiripatti diversion road. Both were killed on the spot. Viralimalai police have registered a case and are investing.

Three killed in accident

Pudukottai: A head constable and his two daughters were killed when the two-wheeler on which they were riding dashed against a lorry near Narthamalai on Sunday. Police sources said that head constable Sait (38) attached to the police station in Gandarvakottai, along with his two daughters and son – Lavanya (8), Kaviya (7), and Karan (4) – were returning home from the temple at Narthamalai. Sait and his two daughters succumbed on the spot.

Two arrested, 500 detonators seized

Pudukottai: Flying squad personnel on a vehicle checking drive seized detonators and gelatine sticks from a car bound for Singampunari in Sivaganga district on Thursday.

Retired teacher murdered in Keeranur

Pudukottai: M.Murugaiah, a 67-year-old retired teacher of Keeranur in Pudukottai district, was found murdered at his residence in Keeranur on Friday. Police who recovered the body with multiple injuries have registered a case. Family feud is believed to be the reason for the murder, according to sources.

 

 

Gold seized from two passengers on bus

Pudukottai: Gold biscuits weighing about 10.25 kg were seized from two passengers on board a private bus by the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Vandakottai near Aranthangi on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the Customs officials conducted vehicle checks on the Aranthangi-Pudukottai highway in the early hours. They intercepted a Chennai-bound omnibus from Thondi in Ramanathapuram district and carried out a search on the passengers.

Naam Tamizhar Katchi members arrested

Pudukottai: A total of 13 members of Naam Tamizhar Katchi were arrested when they hurled bottles and stones at Congress party workers here on Saturday. When the Naam Tamizhar Katchi cadre, after burning the effigies of Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, were drawing the effigies towards the Congress party office nearby, a section of Congress party workers led by A. M.
