Three held for murder of schoolgirl

Namakkal: Three youngsters, including a minor boy, were arrested on Friday for murdering a Class XI girl of Government Higher Secondary School in Periyamanali village in Tiruchengode Taluk here late on Thursday. The arrested were identified as Dileepan (22), a rig driver, his friend Santhosh (21) who works in a crusher unit, and the victim’s classmate, a 17-year-old boy.

Police intensify night patrolling in Namakkal

Namakkal: The police have intensified night patrolling in the entire district to check the crime rate. Special police teams led by Inspectors of Police have been formed in all the four police sub-divisions in the district and they have been regularly organising night patrolling with an eye on the activities of the anti-social elements, according to S. R. Senthil Kumar, Superintendent of Police.

Man arrested for murder charge

Namakkal: The Pallipalayam Police have arrested Raju alias Govindaraj, a youth of Kratur, near Kondalampatti in Salem district, for allegedly murdering a 62-year old woman of Ottamethai area in Pallipalayam in Tiruchengode taluk, Namakkal district, on Friday. “Search is on for the younger brother of the accused who is suspected to be involved in the incident,” the police said.

DMDK functionary arrested

Namakkal: Vazhavanthinadu Police arrested the Kolli Hills Union Secretary of Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) on Thursday for allegedly attacking a man, following a dispute. According the police, a complaint lodged by the victim Venkata- chalam of the same locality stated that A. Selvaraj (36) allegedly beat him, claiming that the place at which he had put up an eatery belonged to Selvaraj.

Two arrested with country-made guns

Namakkal: The Senthamangalam Police arrested two persons for attempt to hunt birds and wild animals with a country-made gun. Forest Department personnel, who caught them red-handed on Tuesday morning, said that the accused, Balachandran (27) and Chandran (31), were from Vasalurpatti village atop Kolli Hills. “They worked in a mango grove at the foothills at Karavalli”, they said.

Six detonators seized

Namakkal: Police arrested Balasubramani (34), a farmer of Vadugapatti, for illegally having six detonators in his possession without proper permission. A search was conducted in his house and farm land, in which six detonator sticks and a 45-metre-long wick were seized. According to the police, the farmer claimed that he wanted to use the explosive to crush the rock in his agricultural land.

Two youth arrested for hiding 16 petrol bomb's

Namakkal: The Belukurichi Police arrested two youth on Sunday for allegedly hiding 16 petrol bombs that were seized by the police from Malaivepankuttai, near Belukurichi, on Saturday. The accused were identified as Gopinath (24) and one of his accomplices Kesavan (20) of the same village. “It is learnt that the two had recently joined the AIADMK,” the police said.

Two trucks, workshops destroyed in fire

Namakkal: Two trucks and two workshops were destroyed in a fire at Seetharampalayam, near Pattaraimedu, in Tiruchengode town during the late hours of Thursday. The Tiruchengode Town Police have registered a case and are investigating. Police sources said that a borewell truck was brought to the workshop of Murugesan on Thursday night. “The employees locked the workshop around 9.30 p.m. and went out for dinner.

Family of four found dead

A family of four including two children were found dead in their house at Pottireddypatti village near Namakkal on Monday. The Erumapatty Police who registered a case and are investigating said that the family was upset over the illness that the head of the family G. Govindaraj (46) and his wife G.

Money lender killed

Namakkal: C. Eswaran (70) a money lender who also attracted deposits through chit funds was found murdered in his house, at Poongulampatti, in Vazhavanthinadu Panchayat, atop Kolli Hills on Friday. Vazhavanthinadu police who registered a case and are investigating said that the old man suffered  injuries on his head, chest and jaw.
