Country bomb near school creates agitation

Chennai: In a second incident within two months, the city police have recovered a country bomb, assembled with commercial explosives, placed in front of an aided middle school at Vyasarpadi here on Friday  evening. The find by parents who came to collect their kids from the government aided middle school caused flutter on Bhakthavatchalam Colony I street at Vyasarpadi,  around 3.30 pm.

IG Intelligence transfered out

Chennai: S. Davidson Devasirvatham, IPS, has been removed from the post of Inspector-General of Police, Intelligence, Chennai. He is replaced by K.N. Sathiyamurthy, IG, Tiruchi, who has been transferred and posted as new IG Intelligence with immediate effect, according to a release from Apurva Varma, Home Secretary. Mr. Devasirvatham had taken over as the IG Intelligence on August 1 after his predecessor P.

Couple approach police to trace missing son

Chennai: The parents of a software engineer working with Hewlett Packard GlobalSoft Pvt. Ltd., Guindy, in flood-hit Chennai have approached the city police here with a request to trace him. Their 22-year-old son Pramod, is stated to be missing and untraceable since December 1.

Gang kidnaps owner of supermarket in Chennai

CHENNAI: Police launched a hunt for a five-member gang that kidnapped a businessman from his newly opened supermarket at Neelankarai in Chennai on Thursday. The green produce supermarket was inaugurated on Wednesday. Police said S Prasad, 35, a resident of Adyar and a native of Tuticorin, came to his supermarket at 9.30am.

Daring rescue effort by city’s top cop

Chennai:On receiving information about the flooding in Tambaram, ADGP Sylendra Babu, sprang into action with this team to evacuate residents to safety. Terrified residents of the Mudichur area, soon after seeing the flood waters entering their houses, made emergency calls to the government emergency service seeking immediate help.

New police chief: Prisons

Chennai: The State government late on Friday transferred the city Commissioner of Police, S. George, and posted him as Additional Director-General of Police (Prisons). The current Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), T.K. Rajendran, will be the city Police Commissioner. A 1984-batch IPS officer, Mr. George headed the Chennai Police for three years.

New police chief for Chennai City

Chennai: The new City Police Commissioner, Additional Director General of Police T.K. Rajendaran, is a postgraduate in Defence Studies from University of Madras. A native of Olaipadi in Tiruvannamalai district, Mr. Rajendran, 58, had his primary education at a government panchayat union school in his native village and did his graduation in defence studies from Voorhees College, Vellore.

Chennai city police commissioner ordered banning manja for 60 days

No need for CBI probe: Jayalalithaa

Chennai: Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on Tuesday, rejected the demand of the Opposition for a CBI probe into the suicide of Tiruchengode Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Vishnupriya, asserting that the CB-CID, to which the case has been transferred, will handle it in a “non-partisan” manner. She said so after DMK Member E.V.
