Man arrested in cheating case

Dharmapuri: A 25-year-old Indian Army sepoy was arrested for cheating a young woman into marriage over Facebook friendship in Palacode. The accused, Muthu, originally from Thiruppathur in Vellore was employed in Hyderabad Military Academy, and was already married. He befriended a 20-year-old college student of Dharmapuri over Facebook and convinced her into eloping with him, even while his wife was alive in Hyderabad.

Two antique idols seized in Tuticorin

Tuticorin: Two antique idols with archaeological significance were seized by sleuths attached to the Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB) of Tuticorin Customs. One stone idol weighing 17 kg and a metal idol of 1.48 kg were found concealed in coconut bags, Assistant Commissioner (SIIB), Custom House, Tuticorin, Piyush Bharadwaj, said here on Wednesday.

Detained under Goondas Act

Salem: The police have invoked the Goondas Act against S. Silambarasan alias Suri (31) of Kitchipalayam, who has been lodged in Salem Central Prison. He was convicted in a case relating to murdering Vijayakumar, a corporation sanitary worker on February 10. Two of his gang members were already detained under the Act.

Two persons arrested in murder case

Dindigul: Two persons — Siva (26) and Velankanni Raj (24) — of Murugabhavanam were arrested here on Wednesday on the charges of murdering M. Sivakumar (25) of the same place. Police said the accused and the deceased had a dispute while playing cricket recently. Sivakumar reportedly threatened them that he would slit their throats. In an inebriated mood, the duo, in a pre-emptive move, slit his throat and murdered him, the police added.

SPECIAL SUMMER CAMPS ORGANIZED FOR POLICEMEN’S CHILDREN

Chennai: Special summer camps have been organized by Chennai Police for wards of police personnel. The camps are cover training in foot ball, badminton, cricket, tennis, boxing, horse riding, swimming, rifle shooting, music, computer, yoga and karate . Approximately 1200 children belonging to police families are attending the camp since 04.05.2015. Camps are conducted at Rajaratnam Stadium, Pudhupet, Mount AR ground, Nehru stadium, and Anna university play grounds.

75 vehicles seized in surprise checks

MANGALURU: Revenue officials with the help of the police stopped vehicles that were carrying sand far beyond the prescribed limits. As many as 75 vehicles were seized in the operation that was held in different parts of the district on Monday.Recently, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim had issued guidelines to regulate sand extraction and transportation. One condition was to allow the transportation of only 10 tonnes of sand in a lorry for which permit has been issued.

City police chief has over a lakh followers

Bengaluru: Bengaluru City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi’s Twitter handle (@CPBlr) crossed the one lakh follower mark on Monday.
